What's The Best Beef For The Paleo Diet?

about our kentucky paleo diet beef

In recent years the Paleo Diet and its paleolithic era hunter-gatherer approach to nutrition has gained more and more converts. The diet is based on the idea that humans are genetically predisposed to thrive on a diet that is heavy on proteins and low in carbohydrates. At Kentucky Steaks, we have many customers that are on the Keto, Atkins or Paleo Diet and we understand the type of grass fed beef you are looking for.

The modern diet, full of refined and processed foods, trans fats and loaded with sugar, is thought to contribute to a host of degenerative health problems and diseases such as cancer, diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, and depression.

The Paleo diet encourages the consumption of foods in their closest to pure state, including fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, seafood, nuts and seeds and healthy fats such as olive and walnut oils. Grains, legumes, and dairy, which can be hard on human digestive and immune systems, are to be avoided. As are all refined and processed convenience foods.

For those who love steak, this must sound like good news. But living Paleo is more than simple permission to eat red meat on a daily basis. And that's because the quality of each food group consumed on the regime, including proteins sourced from red meats such as beef, is essential.

There is a significant difference between eating grain-fed beef and eating humanely raised grass-fed beef. It starts with taste (grass-fed beef is simply tastier), but that's only the beginning. The native food for cows is grass; caring for them on large feed-lots with processed corn-based feed and antibiotics is a relatively recent innovation designed to mature young cows quickly to greater weight and in numbers conducive to mass production and consumption.

Grass fed cows graze freely in open pastures. The practice produces leaner beef that is much higher in omega-3 fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acid (a potent source of antioxidants), and vitamins E and B than grain-fed beef. It's also a more sustainable way to farm and a more humane form of land stewardship and animal care than is typical of large-scale beef-as-a-commodity agricultural operations.

Anyone who cares about nutrition and understands the link between the quality and kind of food consumed and good health, including those who adhere to the Paleo Diet specifically, knows that lean meat proteins support strong muscles, healthy bones and effective immune function. Making sure that the red meat protein you consume is the finest grade grass-fed beef available just makes good sense. Good for the animal, good for the body, good for the planet, good for the soul.
